Head options for a stock cam
I've been thinking about what I want to do with my car, and I want it to be a "sleeper" of sorts. Visually the car should appear and sound more or less stock, only basic bolt on mods should be obvious by looking under the hood.
I was wondering, for those of us who are budget challenged, if I port my stock heads (98 Z), will that render them less/incompatible with the stock cam? And, if I want a cam later, are there some good choices that work well with stock (ported) heads?
Or is this just one of those things that MUST be done at the same time?

you can do them seperately and if you have the right person work the heads you can end up with some decent heads for not a lot of money. There are tons of "sleeper" type cams out there that will make better power than that little stock cam but won't have a lot of lope to it. I think though you should spend more time thinking about it.....that's a lot of money and work to do and not get the most out of the car. You will definitely wish you would've went bigger on the cam.....I can almost promise you that.

Ah, I see, I see... In that case, if I keep the stock (ported) heads, can I get a worthwhile cam without changing the heads?

A 224/114 cam should be undetectable run thru an exhaust with a muffler and cats.

Is even look at something like a 228-230 116-118 lsa....keep your lift under .600" so you can run a good beehive spring and not have to change them every year. The wider your lsa is the smoother your idle will be.
For you, your best bet would honestly be to talk to a custom cam grinder so they can spec out exactly what you want. Stock heads can be worked to flow very well if the porter knows what they are doing

Green- 1995 Z28 w/ LS1 Swap
Pretty general question, any cam will work w/ ported 853 heads(or untouched).. if you want it to be a sleeper then run a small cam...LS6,224r,etc. There's really a ton of options out there...Call a sponsor im sure they can lead you in the right direction.
