Getting H/C Car to 500 RWHP...90 away
My Mods:
Pacesetter Headers- ORY
Texas Speed 228R Cam/Moly Pushrods/918 Springs
MTI LID
Slp Under Drive Pulley
Texas Speeds Rumbler Catback
Sub Frame Connectors
Lakewood Lower C-Arms
Dyno Tune
LS7 Clutch LS2 Flywheel, Nitto DR's
407 RWHP 377 Ft./lbs.
4.10's going in it soon
So my goal is to reach 500 RWHP i plan on doing heads within the next six months but with my cam and a set of heads i only be at about 450 rwhp. Whats the best route for me to get to 500? Go with a different cam and and an excellent flowing set of heads? I really don't want this to get to pricey. If i did it all over again i would have went with a turbo but you live and you learn. My car is my DD so i still want it to be streetable.

Spray it. You will be on the ragged edge of streetability on a stock cubed LS1 I would think with 500 N/A. A little 125 shot should get ya at the 500 mark and maybe some to spare, keep your streetability and be cheaper than a fast 90/90, heads and another cam. your looking somewhere around the 3-4k NA vs 1K max for a complete kit with all the add-ons or a progressive fogger if ya want more for $1200+ range

Guess i'll just shoot for around 450 i want to keep it N/A i like having the power available all the time.
I was thinking of going with a set of partiot heads, i don't want to spend more than 1500 on them what patriot heads do you suggest i go with. Or other brands for a similar price.

Patrick G did it on ls1tech. He has a post about how he did it and what mods. All on a 346 block N/A. I know he used AFR heads milled to a 59cc chamber.

Yep. 500rwhp on a heads/cam set-up is going to be pricey and will depend a lot on the tune as to driveability. Just throw a 100shot on it...

Get some edelbrock terminator heads and a good sized cam, youll be damn near 500 with ALL the bolt ons (TB, SB, longtubes with no cats, FAST 90, etc).
Not alot of people have done it though, but many have hit 480-490.

Thanks, but i don't have that kind of money to throw at my car. I'm gonna throw a set of heads on along with a bigger TB and a Fast 90 and maybe i can see upwards of 460 RWHP

It's easy to get around 500 rwhp n/a. Contact Vengeance Racing in Atlanta.
You won't do it with your cam and patriot heads though.

Depends on what you consider expensive. Their Vindicator cam, Trick Flow Heads, Fast 90/90, Headers, cat-back, Tune. Again, go to the Vengeance Racing web site and you can see the dyno sheets. A couple of cars have made it over 500 rwhp. The rest have been close. Shoot, one guy just bought the Vindicator cam and put out 450 plus with just the cam (headers and exhaust). This was with some other shop installing and tuning. Not sure why it works so well, but the LS1's love that sucker. Give them a call and they will give you pricing.

I put 470 to the wheels with Vengeance's H/C package on a hot, humid day. The Vindicator cam is capable of being street driven, but I am not sure it is "streetable" by some people's definition. I do drive the car on the street regularly, but the cam is pretty rough. Anyway, that 470 was with a relatively heavy C6 ZO6 clutch setup. I think with a lighter clutch and better weather my car would turn the drums to 500 rwhp or very close.

The LS7 clutch felt really heavy to me, and Vengeance racing told me it was a lot heavier than a Spec clutch which is what a couple of their 500rwhp cars are using. I don't know if it is heavy enough to make that much difference though. Anyway, I was trying to say 500rwhp on a stock shortblock is possible but not easy.

Shoot, I consider that to be easy. They've done the R&D. The known kit of things that work is available. It's just a matter of spending the money. I let Mike and Ron @ Vengeance build my engine with whatever parts they wanted to use. I was sending them money while I was in Afghanistan, and they came up with the 10 sec. (streetable) motor/ tranny combo, built it and installed it.
Like I said, use what they recommend and you will achieve 500 rwhp or be really close.
However, I see you are out here in Cali. Unless you are in the military, like me, and can register your car elsewhere, forget about passing smog. The only ways you can achieve that much power and pass smog is (a.) know somebody, (b.) use nitrous (install after smogging), or (c.) forced induction.
