    engine sizes

i read in GM high performance that a LS1 engine is a 346. and my friends keep telling me that my car is a 350 and its pissing me off. but there both 5.7 Liters that i know of. so are those 2 engines pretty much the same? meaning by size

To be exact yes it is only 346. They don't understand the new LS series motors. Everything in the past that was 5.7L was called a 350 because it was the street name for the block. 350 blocks are a thing of the past with the newer LSX engines. They may not be true 350's but the engines breath better and make more power than gen 1 and gen2 350's from the factory.

nice, thanks for the info. so since the LS6 is the same engine size as a LS1, what are the different mods that the LS6 has that makes it different?

Better flowing heads, bigger cam, and better flowing intake.

assuming its a full ls6 long block. but the bare block by itself has better coolant and oil routing throughout the engine. if i remember right because of the rerouting of coolant/oil lines the design ended up with stronder cylinder walls. as far as how strong i couldnt tell you.

all ls1 f-bodies(z28,ss,formula,t/a,ws6, and firehawk) from 01 and up have the ls6 intake. it is a clear an upgrade from the ls1 on any 98-00 models.

notice the hose going in behind the throttle body. of course if needed a person can drill a hole for the egr. the only other way to tell is by part numbers which i have to search for
    ls1 intake
    Click for full size
    ls6 intake
    Click for full size

But the 98-00 models had a slightly larger cam.
