engine knock

the car is a 2001 ss camaro 55600 miles. full exhaust,intake, superchips tune, you know the normal stuff. had problems with engine knock at high rpm, only in drag race situations. i have battle the problem before (52,000 miles) but fixed it with a pcv valve ,pcv catch can, and 2 bottles of GM top engine cleaner.solved the problem until now. but the condition is random, may not happen one run but the next it will.? DOES anyone have any good sugesstions. thanks

Is the knock you are hearing at high RPM detonation?
If so make sure you are using 91 octane. If the superchips
tuner you use requires the use of 93 octane use that.
I've never used the superchips tuner but I know that a
lot of the handheld tuners on the market are designed
to be used with very basic mods, nothing past catback &
air intake. If you have headers the A/F ratio may not work
well with the superchips tune. A dyno tune may be benficial
for you. Oh & check your spark plugs.

Anyways that's what I would do. If the noise you are hearing
isn't detonation, I don't really know what to tell you.

How do you know you are seeing knock? Are you saying you are physically hearing the egnine knocking... or you are putting out a code? I dont like those hand held programmer tunes. Have you had a REAL tune yet? You could get my with a mail order tune from Frost and I bet 10/1 it would be better than that super chips.

Frost is the man to go to. I was told by a pro that those hand helds are good if you know exactly what you are doing, if not they are more dangerous then good. Our PCM's are like mini desktops, lots o' calculations and very sophisticaded (spell? )
