Which engine to get?
What engine should I get to replace mine. Kinda on a budget, mb some type of rebuilt engine for around 2,500.
Mb just find another LS1 and just drop it in? Im not sure about what would be good to just drop in.

I've seen some remanufactured ls6's for around $3500. That would make a good replacement. The easiest thing to do would be to get a ls1 out of another 98 and drop it in, just look for a low mileage one if you are going with a used one.

Junkyard bought and "refurbished" 2002 Camaro Z28 - Pacetter Race LT's, TS&P ORY, Frost tune, Magnaflow, Ported TB, SLP Lid, Circle D 3000, 3.73's, SFC's.
2009 Silverado Z71 - Magnaflow

do what they did on horse power tv,find a low mileage 5.3 or 6 liter and if the bearing look good just clean it up and install a better cam and springs.look on the internet for ls motors for sale in your area.

I see an ls2 for sale but it comes with a 6 speed tranny. Can I just swap the auto tranny I have in or what?
Also about how much do they sell for its from a 06 GTO with 5,600 miles on it.

Yes, your A4 will bolt up to it. I bought my short block for $2,000. It had just been rebuilt with new pistons and ARP bolts.

I see another Ls2 6.0 from a Trailblazer SS. Its going for 2k at the moment. Says it has 7k miles on it...
Only bad thing is, how do I know that these engines are really how someone says? Should I try to find a reman. one or find a used one and just trust someone..

I am in the same boat as you on trying what to do. I really don't want to do it twice, but being laid off hurts the cash flow and limits the options.

Well, Ive found a place from detroit that has a Remanufactured LS1 for 2,199 + 650 if I dont have a core. Which I dont think they can reman. Mine but I dunno. If they can Ill do that, and get a" Performance Cam upgrade 499.99 "
Unless I can get it cheapr and do it myself maybe?
