custom grind question: 228/228 .600 .600 110 lsa?
228/228 .600 .600 110 lsa
how would this perform against a regular tsp 228r cam (228/228 .588/.588 112 lsa)?
I am looking to accomplish these:
1.powerband I am looking for around 1600-6000
2.a pretty flat tq curve from 3500 - 6000
3. hp peaking roughly 6000
4. very choppy idle
stock 01 ws6 with lid/filter, full exhaust longtubes, etc..
6 speed stock gears.
thanks for any help.Pontiac Firebird's: 91 Formula 350, 01 Trans Am WS6, Suzuki's: 09 SX4 Crossover, GSX-R's: 06 600 & 07 1K.

Sounds like a solid grind.
I wouldn't go 110 LSA though. It will be plenty choppy on a 112.2008 Trailblazer SS

maybe 111 then, I wanted it alittle more choppier than the standard TSP 228r.
I am kinda uncertain what the extra lift will do, since I am not totally 100% sure how the numbers work.
but I will be running dual springs anyway and most likely 7.4 hardened pr's

So go with a 232/234 type cam and stay on at least a 112 or above.
The lower the LSA the harder the car becomes to tune, and overall drive.

the 228/228 I wanted to keep the tq down low and flat and as well hp peaking early like 6k
wanted to stay in the higher middle cam bracket vs. a 230s cam
I will look the numbers you posted and see what some dyno graphs look like.
thx

What kind of lobes? You won't pick up much over a 228r if any.

110 LSA is ideally suited for a tracked/race car...
i dont see you gaining that much powerwise over a 228r, sound wise, just more of an extreme lope/chop at idle versus a 228r...

Blue- 2002 Z28 Camaro M6
I have found even with my little cam which is a slight bit different then the 228r (mine is a 226/228 .585/588 lsa 112) the car really wants to spin up past 6k towards something more like 6.5k sure it might even go up further I just don't want to push the stock internals that hard.

wow thanks for all the responses!
I believe I made my decision
going with a tsp cam package with the 228r, they said I can order it with a 111lsa and they wont have any problems with that. will make the idle alittle more choppier than normal and lower the powerband around 50-75 rpms
I am going with the dual springs and their lobes are the XERs so its aggressive but not too agressive with the lift being under .600 still
its a proven "middle" sized cam which gains alot of tq and hp mostly in the middle powerband and it likes to go alittle past 6300k which the engine might see from time to time.
a custom 228/228 .600 .600 would I believe use z-cam lobes like the SDPC 228 cam they offer but they offer it with a 113 lsa
plus the lift is just a tad more extreme than needed just for a 228/228
I plan to make the purchase very soon I hope to at least.

I HIGHLY recommend you take a look at Jeff's MOTR v2 cam! It will do everything you want it to do, and make over 400rwhp on his dyno Sounds awesome!

that's a 228r on a 114 with my first idle tune. I think the idle was at 900 or 950 there just to give you an idea. I have zero problems with people not knowing I have a cam. My idle is now at 850 and I plan on taking it down a little further this spring. Even on a 112 you're gonna have chop. Is your car a m6 or a4?

Yeah he is just so busy most likely I dont like brothering him too much unless I just wind up stopping bye like I do sometimes to see how things are going.
I believe the regular 228r should make close to 400, but I rather have almost equal amounts of tq and hp vs. just having 400 hp and low tq.Last edited by MdFormula350; 02-06-2008 at 03:22 PM.

First, i would choose a dual-pattern cam to make up for the differences in Intake/Exhaust flow...
with duration being equal between the 2 cams, the cam with more lift will make more power....
the differences in LSA have already been explained earlier in previous posts...
