i used my stock shortblock with heads, cam, 150 shot with no issues. cost to rebuild a motor can be $4000.00ish. my 408 shortblock just cost me $4200.00 in just parts.

no. i was saying the cost to rebuild a ls1 with stock parts would be around $4000.00. that should include parts and labor. i was referencing my 408, that using good aftermarlet parts has cost me $4200.00 just in parts. i put the motor together myself.

if you go 383, you'll have to get the block clearanced for the crank throws and rod bolt ends. that's why i went with the 6.0L block for the 408. no clearancing needed and 408 instead of 383. save money and more inches.

Which performs better in these cars? A lighter stroked LS1 or a heaver, larger displacement 6.0?

Now if i were to get a 408 what would it cost to install it vs.puttin in a stroker,or rebuilding a 346(7)Labor price only if you know.I've priced parts such as stroker kits,forgepistons/rods and a 408 short block. If its cheap to swap in the 408 I may go that route but if labour is gonna be the same as a rebuild or stroker install I may just buy the stroker kit

labor to build a 408 will be less due to not having to clearance the block. might be talking 200-400 in savings there.

In Northern California, I was quoted $5600 for rebuilt engine plus $1000 for pulling old engine out and installing the rebuilt one in its place.
I priced engines from chevy dismantlers (used engines with 30K to 100K miles), they go for $3500-$4000.
