Is he buying the hot cam? Honestly it's not worth the money you spend on it when you can get cam's that will get you much better power for less money. The 216 is how many degrees the intake valve will stay open. The 220 is how many degrees the exhaust valve stays open. The .525 is the maximum lift of the intake valve and the .532 is the max lift of the exhaust valve. There should be one more number after those telling the lobe separation on the cam. I think the hotcam is 117 degrees of lobe separation, but not real sure.

That's a small cam and if your looking for power, I'd look for something else. A cam like that is more for forced induction.

I would go ahead and replace them with new ones just cause I'm almost certain he'll put that in and realize he'll want more power and go get a larger cam where you'll need better springs. No, he doesn't, but with any larger cam he'll need new ones. You can get a deal with cam packages that come with all you'll need from Thunder Racing or Texas Speed.

What's he looking for out of the cam though?

That cam will be really reliable then and should keep all the stock driveability. You won't see a big power increase though.

Those specs are not HOT Cam specs. The HOT cam has a 219/228 I/E dur. and .525"/.525" lift w/ a 112 LSA. Anyhow, those specs you listed are very mild. I'd definitely go bigger unless emissions is a strict issue.

how much bigger could he go without it becoming a nusanse with daily driving, as far as reliability and such.

I probably wouldn't go any bigger than a 226 duration a 580 lift and 114 or higher LSA if you want a close to stock driveablility. The farther the LSA the less choppy it will be.
