Choosing valve springs
i am getting a cam
Texas Speed & Performance Torquer V.2 232/234 .595/.598 112 Lsa Cam
but don't know what valve springs to go with?
read a lot about comp cams 918's but not sure what i should do I'm on a pretty limited budget but know i must have them with that much lift.
also on the fence about doing push rods, may wait until spring when i do heads for that.
Thanks for the input!

BeeHive
I used new Beehive Springs. Picked them up off EBay at a good price (comp cams). I kept the same retainers because I could not afford the price of new titanium types. The stock will hold-up fine IMO, just weigh a few grams more. Check out what I thought was good info at:

P&P Maf, TB By-Pass, PS Shorties, LS6 Intake, FAST 78mm TB, Hooker CB, Hurst Billet, Front Tower Brace, small 218/218....527/527....114 cam.

918s will work but that cams is borderline for those springs imo. I'd go with the Texas Speed duals for piece of mind, they come with the titanium retainers.

I'd also change the pushrods now, don't be cheap:

Thanks I'll look into that.

Not a problem. being a realestate agent in this time is not the happiest of times for working on my car. with cam swap, valve springs, oil pump (ls6) and a few other things for the car my budget is blown. There is nothing more that I hate than people half assing things.
I plan this winter to add a set of good flowing heads which will replace the springs, push rods probably lifters too. and add a much better intake.
Edited because I can't spell/type right the first time.

I have PRC doubles from TSP with an MS4, thats one of the best setups you can go with. However I did Torquer V.2 to be more streetable with auto In one of my customers cars and it was awesome. You can use Comp 918's with no problem, these springs are slightly underrated and are actually good for well over .600 lift like .620 I believe. Make sure you have new batch of 918's though cause old metal was recalled and the new ones are better, TSP has new ones. I know you are on budget Dont even waste time doing incomplete, you will need hardened pushrods and an upgraded oil pump as well to do it right. Stock pushrods can bend under high spring pressures and rpm's. Good luck.

Have already bought an LS6 oil pump and as soon as i find out more info and it arrives i will be porting it. The push rods i felt could wait until lifters. I have also heard having the pushrods as the weak link could possibly keep your valve 's from hitting the cyclinders resulting in much more money in the long run.
The MS4 just seemed like the car was barely idling i liked the 112 LSA better than the 111LSA my car is an M6 one reason the budget is tight is i have to do some trans work ( synchro's and i'm not sure what else just yet.
Thanks always open to advise suggestions.

My advice would be to always do valvesprings with a cam swap, especially with the XE-R lobes on that cam. With recent failures of a certain beehive spring, I'd be looking at duals anyway. PRC and Patriot Golds are good, well-priced options.

I am running that cam with a set of stage 2 243's 2.02/1.60 and dual gold series srpings. Makes pretty good power, with a rough idle...I had to bump the idle to about 950 to keep it running. It put down 437hp/406tq with heads and fast90/90! It's a start. Good luck with it!

Nothing wrong with the Patriot gold duals.
$260 or so and you get EVERYTHING. Springs, retainers, locks, etc...
They have handled my 248/254 629/622 113 for almost 3 years and 9K miles.
Granted, I do expect to swap them out at 15K miles, just as a precaution.
Also, make sure your oil is warm before spinning up to redline if you run those springs.
And in case it isn't clear, the FAST 92/92 has been released.2008 Trailblazer SS

They are a set of stock ls6 heads that were worked on. I bought them off of ebay just to see what they were good for. Apparantly 40 or 50 horse on the dyno.
I have a set of kooks l/t headers 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8 to a ory with no cats to a corsa catback.

I'm getting ready to put a cam (226ish/230ish .600ish/.600ish) in my fathers 2000 vette and I'm going with PSI 1511 spring and trend push rods with the cam only swap.
I have heard lots of good things about PSI springs, the ones I'm going with are beehives.Last edited by chadsawask; 06-24-2008 at 04:26 AM.

PAC Racing 1218 or nitrided 1518 (0.650" lift) will work, these are drop in so you can use the stock retainers. PAC-1218 is the geometrically the same as Comp 918, but different material and processing (PAC is the original producer of the 918 spring).
