Cams, Worth it?
I will be stroking my engine soon from a 346 ls6 to a 383.
I have 2.5 ls6 heads and a tq2 cam. I`ve seen a couple nice numbers from people with this but i thought it might be to small for a 383. I was thinking of somewhere like 236-242 114+2.....Would this even be a big enough difference to be worth it because ive seen similar (ms3`s) with roughly the same HP-tq numbers as the tq2.
Can anyone tell me if its worth it to change or not. Street strip car and DD. My Tq2 is ideal IMO for DD, maybe just a hair `bucky` sometimes.
Or anyone recommend a cam with this set up and heads. Thank you

The extra cubes will smooth out the "buckyness" on your current setup as well as shifting your powerband down the rev range a bit. It should be a kitten at part throttle, but you may want to invest in the company of your favorite tire brand when you go WOT.

With a light car like that, you can definitely get more aggressive with you cam and be plenty streetable. Plus, moving the powerband back up with more duration might help with traction.

Honestly won't be much of a power difference.
The lightweight car will assist in that change making a very minor change, but to me....not worth the $400 plus time/money for the install.
How a cam drives is mostly tuning. Get the tune spot on, even the big ones won't buck much (although at at a certain point it is just going to happen).2008 Trailblazer SS

I run a ms3 cam with a 113+3on a stock cube bolt on ls1 and rides rather smooth for an a4 and I haven't even got the ported heads on yet although I do have a good tune thanks to my friend who own a shop that does a lot of cam swaps. I love the cam and pulls like hell once you get pass 3500 rpm and over 40mph where I actually have traction.

Thanks for the advise people. I figured it might bump my hp up 20 or so and loose maybe a few tq which isnt a problem, like you mentioned before, i have a lightweight car. Just trying to hear what people seen and have that worked best for a 383 ls6 2.5 prc heads with most bolt on`s and was a DD, street, strip car and would like to be shifted at 6800-7100rpms.
