Cams for Dummies
Yeah so there's basically one thing about an engine I don't understand. The duration of a cam and it's lift. I get the basics, but I can't allways tell what's good and what's not, what's too radical, what's too mild. All that stuff so does anyone have any articles that I can study or at least give me a quick tutor session as an example to me and everyone else who reads?

Don't forget a good set of valve springs. I recommend the Patriot Golds duals.

Honestly I don't really like the specs on their cams. They seem to have a very low duration and a high lift. I have always been a Comp guy. I have ran Comp cams in everything I own. I guess it all depends on where you want your power to come in and what kind of an idle you want. I really like the cam i have because the lift isn't huge and the duration is kind of a mid size. My bottom end is pretty much like stock but when it gets to about 3k it really comes alive. Has a good lope also. If you go too big you will not have anything on the bottom and also it is harder to tune.

yeah i see what you mean... to be honest, this may contradict everything i SHOULD be saying, but i would like to have an offset idle, i know thats not how you pick a cam, but i allways wanted that, and im sure if the lsa is high enough and a mildly lifted cam i can still run stock heads and get a slight offset

well the higher LSA you have the more smooth it will idle and also the higher up the power will come in. I run the Comp 228/230 on a 112 and it still had good power on the bottom and also has a good lope. I also run the stock heads. The lower LSA the more lope it will have and the power will start lower in the range.

Here is what my 228/230 on a 112 sounds like.

At that time I had the magnaflow but now I have the SLP loudmouth and run a bullet muffler in the mid pipe. It's alot louder now. I also don't run any cats.
