Black- 2001 Z28 Camaro
Which Cam should i go with
which cam is better suited for what i want.
My car is a DD and i still want it to be streetable, it will rarely see the track but i want it to be a street king and the car must pass TN emissions tests.
these are the cams i have considered so far:
COMP CAMS CAMSHAFT
230/230 duration
.612/.590 lift
110LSA
RPM range: 2200-6800
or a
GM Hot Cam
218/227 Duration,
525/525 Lift
112LSA
Car is a A4 and has following mods:
3.73 gears,3000 stall, hooker catback exhaust, Cold air intake, and lower RCAs

For the life of me I don't think I will ever understand posts like this. Not to come down on you Iceman, but there is NO WAY anyone will be the street king with a cam-only anything. There is no way to be street king with heads & cam anything. You are going to have to sink an INSANE amount of time and money into this and that doesn't guarantee you a damn thing in return. I would think the Comp would make more power, but it would not be as good on the DD part. Also I would say a cam-only and a head & cam car with the same power numbers the H/C car would win.

your gonna need long tubes if you run a 230 duration cam. Thunder racing old man camshaft or one of their sleeper cams that are ground to work with stock exaust would be a good choice. And if your just looking for something that has a good lope to it I guess the hot cam would be all rite. And just so you know there is always somebody around the corner that can outrun your ass.So I wouldn't be polishing up my crown just yet!

you could run either a TR224 or a Comp224 on a 112lsa, and still meet TN emissions, you'd have a nice TQ across the RPM band, anything bigger i might think would cause you to fail...
i think a 230 @110lsa (with over a .600 lift) would not pass and would be to big of a cam without headers, since you would need that to really wake up the cam. also you would need all supporting upgrades for a cam swap as well...2018 CTS-V: °°668rwhp/658rwtq°°

Hugger Orange- 1999 Camaro Z-28
MTI STEALTH II
224/220 .581/.581 116+0
(*but on stock heads wont be optimal... ported & milled would be great)
or TR 224 114LSA
OR go with Thunder Racings CheaTR cam
dont forget the dual springs though
i'd stick w. 114 of higher LSA with the Auto
make sure to pick up a YANK 3200-3600 (2.3-2.7 STR) stall converter

a 230/230 on a 110 SA will not pass emissions. the overlap is huge on that cam. this allows unburnt fuel escape, at low rpms, into the exhaust. a cam will need to have less overlap. you achieve this via wider LSA and/or shorter duration.
vinci's triple xxx or 056 cam should meet the requirements you are looking for.

with the exception of being street king. there will always be someone quicker. other thing to do would be nitrous.Cold Air Intake, Muffler Delete, Vinci High Performance Dual Valve Springs, Hardened Pushrods, Yella Terra 1.85 Rockers, Some Hydropdipped Stuff, Strut Tower Brace, Some SS Badges, boost/vacuum gauge, fuel pressure gauge, some checkered stripes, drilled/slotted rotors, ZL1addons Stealth wickerbill, Ruxifey LED side markers

get the tired and true 224/224 grind from comp cams.
its a great mid range cam that gives great "street power".2000 nhra edition formula

Yeah I hear that on the turbo, s/c, and sprayed f-bods. There is an individual around here that has a TT vette AND a s/c vette among other things. Hell I have even seen a gallardo rolling around. Kinda makes you rethink the South Carolina being full of poor rednecks.
