First off welcome to the site and welcome to the life of real muscle cars!
Your not really going to want to get a cam without the supporting mods. You can if you’d like to but you wont get the full gain of the cam without them. Your not going to be able to get a cam that has a choppy idle without changing springs. But you can get a ASA cam and LS6 springs for cheap! And that thing chops pretty good….
an links to the vids..

Just read up on cams. You need to get a feel for what you are wanting.

i have all the suporting mods, intake, longtubes, full exhaust, im just wondering about a cam that has a rough idle without changing springs cause i dont wanna buy springs cause im build a 408 6.0 motor to go in but its gonna take a while so i just wanted a choppy idle until i get the stroker in?

the stock springs are barely good enough for the stock cam, if I were you I'd pickup a set of comp 918 springs and then you can swap them over to your stroker when the time comes ( as long as your stroker cam's lift isn't too high)
a cam with a 112 lsa or less will be choppy

Valve springs are a must. If you dont wanna change the valve springs, you dont want a cam.

Hey just responded to your other post! But like mark said stock springs really arn't very good especialy w/alot of miles on them. What happens when you add more lift on stock
spring also is spring bind & then have a prob. bending pushrods!! which should be replaced w/a cam change also!

well do u have to take the heads off to change the springs, or is there some way u can do it with the heads on cause i hear its really hard to pull the heads on these things with motor in the car. right now its lookin like ill just wait until i get my motor built before i can have the idle i want. cause these r my two other cars and i want it to sound like them! lol, <a href="http://videos.streetfire.net/video/lx-coupe-SICK_210908.htm"><img src="http://px5.sfstatic.com/thumbs/0000/90/80/210908.jpg"/><br>lx coupe, SICK!</a> <a href="http://videos.streetfire.net/video/NASTY-MALIBU_696150.htm"><img src="http://px5.sfstatic.com/thumbs/0000/16/05/696150.jpg"/><br>NASTY MALIBU!</a>

you can swap out the springs with the heads on, I don't know which threads they arr in, but there are a couple on here if you look back over this past month that have the tool you want....you can make one or buy them for around 30 some bucks

oh trust me i dont get scared when it comes to doin mods, lol as long as it gets me more power! my mustangs is makin right at 850 until i can get more boost and then im shootin for 1000. one day im hoping the trans am will be there too or as cose as possible, lol and i know yall guys probly dont like hearing about a ford but i love em all as long as it can make big power and f-bodies look so damn good! I dont like rice though, haha. thanks again for the post, im kinda leanin toward a ms3 cam with some comp behive springs and ti retainers
