Cam question
Hi, I have a question idk if it's kinda dumb. But I need to have an idea
I want to put a bigger cam on my car. Idk how much that cost. Any idea bout how much I could pay for labor?
Some guy do it for $1800. I was told by friends that it's alot.
How much have u guys paid fir that? Not including the cam
I was thinkin bout ls6 cam
cuz I'm geattin ported ls6 heads as well
and do I have to get the car tuned for that?
Thanks if some could help me

who ever you get to do the work, check their reputation. I wouldnt hand my car over to "some guy" if I wasn't completely sure that he knew exactly what he was doing. what ever you pay it's going to be a whooooole lot more then if you did it yourself.
if your trying to pass smog then the LS6 cam will be good. with a good tune it will pass. if you don't care about smog then the doors wide open and you gotta decide what you want out of the car and what other mods your gonna have supporting what ever cam you choose.

don't quote me on it, but if I remember right you can go up to a 224 on a 114 lsa and still pass Cali smog....for the gain, I personally wouldn't pay someone to put an LS6 cam in....atleast go with a Hot cam.

I'm tryin to keep it smog legal. Bt if I put the biggest smog legal and it no make no diference, so I'm gonna leave on the side the emissions.
So anythin it's better than the ls6 cam?
What do I have to change? Oil pump and the chain?

224/224 114LSA with a good tune will pass. Agreed LS6 cam swap is not worth the hassle. If you are A4 a 224 would be best with a stall.
Expense: Depending on springs you decide on $550-$700 for a cam kit. $600-$700 install. $500 for a dyno tune or $250 street tune.... A head install is about $500 around here. If you are gonna do it right you need headers first or get a cam designed for stock manifolds like a cheaTR from Thunder Racing IMO.....

I jst needed to knw wat a good cam would be my best option

you don't have to pull the engine to change the cam.contact Predator-Z at another forum ,he is great at designing custom cams, even good smog cams.

they were talking about stall converters, they over looked that you had a m6.there is another thread here looking for a good smog cam.check out LS1howto.com,maybe you and some friends can change the cam your self, and save money for a tune by Frost.call compcam or fill out a cam recommendation at their web site ,and they will respond in a week with cam number that will work for you.or to ls1tech and contact PAT-G or Predator-Z for a cam.

you could use longtubes if you don't mind swapping your exhaust at smog time. I'll use my situation for example because I live in Cali too.
I'm going to run long tubes with no cats and TSP true duals, then dump them before the axle. when smog time comes I'm going to bolt the stock exhaust back up WITH THE EXCEPTION that I'll use something like a loudmoth resonator after the catted stock Y pipe and also dump that in front of the axle.

I also forgot to add that I picked up another PCM off of eBay that's for my year of car and when I put on the illegal stuff Ill put in the other PCM and get it tuned. when smog time comes I'll put in the original PCM with stock parts and it will be good to go. Ill save the money of getting it retuned to stock settings

Datz a smart move lol.
Yeah I think I'm jst gonna swap all the stock exhaust to longtube headr y pipe and no cats. And maybe the magnaflow
da good thing bout the smog IRS dat I got it diz year so I wnt need it for the nxt 2 years
or I was thinkin bout stock exhaust with some cutots b4 the cats but idk wat option will be better

just keep in mind that what ever you do your gonna have to tune it so there's no codes and if you really want it dialed in your obviousley gonna dyno tune it which is important, BUT EXPENSIVE (around here it's about 500), so what ever mods you do, do them all at one time (if you can) and just get it tuned once
