    CAM help for a newb

My transam is pretty lightly modded...intake and catback for now. Its probably going to get headers and cats soon. Other than that I don't have too much else planned power wise.

What would be a good cam to stick in there? Is there something that will give me good driveability though a fairly wide range of throttle application. I don't race it really, but I do like to get on it a bit.

Another question...gas mileage, can I get a cam that won't affect it much, I don't want to loose any mpg if possible, but if it takes more than 1mpg off my highway cruising I would just rather stick with the stock cam.

Oh..how long would a cam install take at a good shop? And what kind of power gains could I expect?

Thanks for any advice you guys can give.....I'm totally knowledgeless when it comes to cams.

Perhaps I just won't cam it, a little extra omff is always good, but most of my time is highway cruising...and I love my mpg there.

just to let you know..when you get your exhuast your mpg will go down..just for the fact that you will want to get on it more to hear the exhaust...to mod for mpg is silly..we mod for power..mpg should be only a after thought with our cars .

agreed... if you're that concerned about saving money on fuel. Pick yourself up a cheap beater that gets 30s on the highway and with the money you save on the vehicle initial purchase, insurance, and maintenance you can throw all that money at your sports car.

thats what I did, 1990 Sunbird LE, so many of my girlfriends have called it cute that my ego is in pain but once they see the TA they have a different view on things

When I put a cam in my car I actually noticed no difference in MPG. Of course that is only when I am driving normal. If I make it out to the track or something like that I don't even try and figure out my MPG.
