Cam help
I just bought a motor (LT1) and the guy said it had the biggest cam that you run with the stock tune but he lost all the info for the cam and the sn is on the inside! Im about to put it in the car and need to know what it is! Question is do I have to remove the heads and intake to remove the cam or can I do it with out the head ache?

I'd be wary of anyone who tells me it's got the "biggest cam on a stock tune" that can't provide specs or even a manufacturer part number.

And you would have to remove the intake on an LT1 to remove the cam. There is a spider that retains the lifter retainers (dog bones) in the valley.

Yes on the LT1 you'll need to remove the intake to pull the lifters and slide the cam out.
And that's exactly what I would do. Get the part numbers off the cam and then you can determine exactly what it is without guessing. 99% of the time there will be a grind number scribed onto the back face of the cam.
No way would I install an engine unless I knew exactly what was inside. Without know the specs and having the camcard you wouldn't know where the cam should be installed or if it was ever installed properly. Once you have the grind # the manufacture should be able to send you another copy of the cam card.

As far as I have seen with my cam and all the others my friends have in ls and lt motors soon as you add a bigger cam you need a tune for that specific grind.

You have to pull the cam to see the grind numbers,,,hence the reason for his question.

Thank you firebird for reading my op! To recap for some of y'all, I bought a motor with the cam already installed!! The guy I bought it from said it had the biggest cam you can get before you need a tune!! That's way I was asking how to remove it!!
And thats a negative, its not going in my 02! It's going in a 96!Last edited by prater_1; 05-18-2011 at 07:37 PM.
