why is it you need all those supporting mods for a cam? I'm sorry I'm kind of a newb about internal engine modifications.

transman---to maximize the potential of the cam. You should have the headers/CB completed first before the cam, IMO/

but realisticly you can just stick a cam in your engine and it will run fine?

most cams for the LS1 will start making their good power above 2800 rpms. My cam really starts to scream above 3000rpms. If you want a good down low to go w/ your cam, get some good 4.10 gears. That, in combonation w/ your cam will give you a nice street beast.
make sure you get all the supporting parts, hardened 7.4 pushrods, new valve springs ( .600 lift or higher depending on the cam lift), titanium retainers, spring seats, locks, double roller timing chain.
My cam is 595/598, so .600 lift springs woulda been pushing it, I went w/ the PRC's .650 lift duel springs, I should have no problems w/ those bad boys. Good luck and take your time. Read as many tech. articals as you can, don't just jump into a project like this. Get all the required tools also.
