Blow-by, can PCV help?
So my car consumes some oil, about one quart every 1000 miles or so. If I pull the dipstick and flip the throttle, there is a SMALL amount of smoke that comes out of the dipstick tube. So this is blow-by caused by piston ring gap correct? My question is, would changing the PCV (mine are the stockers still on a 1999 model with 55k miles) with the newer ones help this oil consumption any? And would getting a 160 thermostat help by keeping the oil cooler? I am running penn plat 10W30 by the way, and really don't want to change to higher weight since winter is coming...

I hear the new PCV desing prevents oil blow by in the pcv system. The old desing let excessive amounts of oil in instead of just venting the crankcase like its supposed to.

But if the blow-by is already occuring as evidenced by a small amount of smoke coming from the oil dipstick when throttle blipping, is this definetly oil being consumed from ring gap and would have to exit through the PCV valve regardless?
