Baby cam
I know alot of these have popped up recently so bear w/ me
I have a chance to get one of a few baby cams for cheap. I have an a4 w/ full bolt-ons and was wondering what cam would be best w/o making it a hassle to drive w/ a stock stall.
It's between
1.220/220 112 lsa
2.220/224 112lsa
3.220/220 114 lsa
I was hoping for a 220/224 on 114 but the guy recomended the #3. I want the cam to be stealthy and liveable so I might be going the #3 route does any one have experience with these?
P.S If I had the money I would do the stall, but for a decent one it would cost more than twice for one of these so don't

I ran an advertised 222/222 (actually measured 221/221) on a 114 for years. Made good power and drove nice. Even with the cutout open the idle was tame, but had just a hint of a lope. Anything near WOT and the sound gave it away.
A cam that small could work with the stock converter, and would require very minimal tuning.
How cheap are the cams you're looking at? I've still got mine w/Cam Doctor report... would let it go for $200 or so.

I'm running a 220/224 112lsa in my a4 goat, it would barely start and idle without a tune.
look around on ebay, I pickedup my almost new 2,800 stall for $140 shipped
with any cam you will need better springs

I'm looking at a GM hot cam I can get for a steal. Didn't have a cam in my plans till I seen it for a steal. It's a 112 219/228 525/525. Comes with the LS6 springs. Not knowledgeable on cams, would this be streetable and how noticeable would it be? Would it even be a real upgrade over my stocker?

300 bucks. What does the lobe seperation do? How does the intake and exhaust affect the powerband and torque?

smaller lsa gives a more choppy idle and more power under the curve(not good for stock stall cars) I'm not 100% but I think the further apart the more torque you get.

So if I wanted an idle that sounds almost like its going to stall out, what would I want? A low lsa and intake/exhaust with a big gap?

sound is most affected by the lsa at idle at least. the intake/exhaust is a big affect under load im pretty sure. but a low lsa will give it alot more of a choppy sound. someone correct me if im wrong though

the cam i just put in my car is 220/224 .570/.580 112 lsa. real aggressive choppy idle and a very decent power gain....while i did the cam swap i also ported and polished the heads. mine is an a4 with a 2800 stall and now that i have done some tuning time it my cold idle is 1065 rpm and warm idle is 950 rpm.....same exhaust as before, but with the head work and cam it is SO much louder and sounds great!
