Another Cam Question or Two!!!
A few years back I blew the motor up in my 98 Trans Am and have never gotten around to putting a new one in it. Well this time around i think I may want to put a cam in it. First question, what would be a good cam to get? I want a real nice, mean sounding lope. Second question, if I do the cam install would it be necessary to do anything to the heads? Third question, is there anything else I should do while I'm at it that would complement this mod? I plan on putting some headers on it while I have the motor out. I'm not particularly looking to get some unreal amount of HP out of it, I'm more aiming for a real good loping sound with some added horses.
Thanks,
Jeremey

My cam I have has a lopey idle, makes good power. You will need harndened pushrods and new valve springs. Go ahead with a ls6 intake and a ported t/b. Then when you get your headers and another tune you will be set. You will need a tune when you install the cam.

My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
LOL, wow...i'm jsut thinking...it is a 98, even at a 60mo pay plan, that sucker has been paid off for a long time...it hasn't been driven so you didn't pay alot for insurance and nothign for gas....dude, you have to have so much money saved up!!!
anyway, congrats on getting back on the horse; dave made some good points. I would highly suggest porting the heads too b/c that'll give it a lot more air in both directions. good luck, and how the hell did you blow it up?!
Oh, I've been reading a book called "Ls1/LS6 performance upgrades" it's located in borders' books "Engine repair" section. It gives you a WHOLE lot of stuff to think about.

Thanks for the advice. Appearantly my car burned a little oil, I never checked it between oil changes so I figured it was good all the time. I wouldn't have thought that a 5 year old car would burn oil but boy was I wrong. Car started knocking and here we are. I won't make that mistake again. I actually don't have a whole lot of money saved up....I have a 2000 C5 now too. What do you guys think these mods will run me money wise?
