    9500$ for 420 RWHP?

I got a quote of 9500$ to turn a stock 01 m6 ws6 to putting down 420 rwhp and still pass CA smog. Is this a fair price? This includes labor, parts and tune. I am interested in passing CA smog but if i can get to 420 rwhp for much cheaper with out passing smog i would consider it. What do you guys think?

P.S. If you can recommend a good speed shop in southern CA I'd appreciate it.

ya i paid like 4k for heads, cam, lts, tune. i made 397WRHP. witha Fast 92/92 set up 420 would be no problem.... $9500 is a little much. but if its for a blower thatd be cool to.

It for N/A 420 rwhp, the shop i contacted was Superior Automotive in Anaheim CA. I keep seeing their commercerials while watchin PINKS so I figured I'd give them a call. I figured they would be expensive but i dont know good shops in Socal. When you say "a lil much" how over priced are you talking about? like 3000 or like 1000, ball park figure?

At the end of the day, it's tough to say whether you're getting a good deal or not simply because we're not sure what the part list looks like. If you're shooting for 420 rwhp and need to pass CA emissions, the following combo might work...

    $1,500 Aftermarket Heads
    $1,100 Ported FAST 92mm combo
    $600 Cam kit + springs & pushrods
    $900 Shorty/Mid-length Headers + catted y-pipe
    $400 Aftermarket catback
    $600 Dyno Tune
$300 Shop incidentals (oil, bolts, etc.)
    $2,000 labor for install

    $7,400 Total.

Assuming your doing all of this at once, these prices (depending on the products) are easily within reason. If you modded piece by piece over time, the labor would obviously be more as there would be more time involved in tear down and build up.

Alternatively, you could install a fully automated nitrous setup for around $2,500 and you could enjoy putting down well over 420 rwhp.

Thank you guys. Sounds like i'd be better off going piece by piece or atleast find a shop who can do something for a lower price. What kind of hp goal is reasonable for me while keeping the block, pistons, crank stock? . . with out nitrous?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I only know of one set of carb stamped CALI legal heads and they are made by AFR and they cost $2,300 and shorties are the only legal way to go and they also have to be carb stamped. If you can find a place to look over this stuff then you are golden.

Ported stock or 243s make great power; it's not like they will be able to see into the runners...

    TSP, you can't go wrong!!!!!!!

5.3l Heads & Cam $1900 with ported LS6 oil pump & timing chain.
Headers, y pipe and cat back vary on taste and preference (personally QTP LT, QTP Catted Y Pipe, GMMG Catback w/SLP Dual/Dual tips - $1900, but that's just my personal pefered setup)
FAST 92/92 ITM/TB combo- $1100 from TSP and you can even see if they'll port it out for you

so far that's $4,900 ROUGHLY for the main components, don't quote me on this, I'm no mechanic, nor do I claim to be one, but for $9500 you can go to DTS in the valley and get started on a Twin-Turbo Build for 500+ RWHP @ 8ps1 on a stock LS1 Long Block.

    just my $000,000.02

Not a chance in hell of passing the strict CARB emissions standards in California.

I know, but I've got "people", the real key is to KEEP THE CATS or get Hi-Flows, because the smell is strong....

Gotcha. Luckily I have those 'people' as well.
I would still go Kooks over QTP...but the difference is minimal.

Mine has no cats. Granted, Colorado law enforcement isn't nearly as picky.
