Midnight Blue- 1998 Camaro Z28 A4
93,151 miles
Rest in peace LS1.... couldn't even hit the 100k mark.
Bearing went into the bottom end, motor siezed/hydrolocked.
My options:
1. LS2 6.0 Aluminum Block Motor (423 hp) $6,100.00 + extras
2. LS6 Cast Iron Block Motor (400 hp) $3,000.00 + extras
3. LS1 (Version 2) 5.7 Aluminum Block Motor (385 hp) $3000.00
4. Part the car out or sell as is & buy a new car.
I am pretty much choosing option 3, but curious to hear others feedback... I am trying to keep this cheap.
I am all over my oil changes, every 3k miles, but with my next change not even due yet, we found my car
at less than 2 quarts when the motor blew this morning. There are no oil leaks. My advice to others out
there is to check your oil weekly.

I have the Ls6 in my 99 camaro ss and i love the power, this motor pulled a supercharged 2004 gt mustang running 10psi of boost by half a car and still trying to pull harder.

this is what i would go with, how are your heads, are they good, either rebuild and port and polish you stock heads or go afr 205 combined with the 383 to get gobs of all motor power
i love the idea of a 383 ls1!!! can you say bye bye 03 04 terminator.
good luck and take your time picking out your combo, Oh and unless the car is in bad shape do not get rid of it, just think of this as a great time to make the ls1 an even better motor, and if you do run you motor hard change the oil every 2000 miles, thats what i do and i have 122,866 miles and hundreds WOT passes on the street and strip

oh and don't forget about a good cam,
don't go iron block unless you are planning on over 650hp, do yourself a favor and keep the weight off the front of the car

Pretty much made my decision today on the LS1 Gen II (385 HP).
The dealership told me they would give me a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty.

black- 2000 ws6
for 3000 id build a forged 383 stroker... otherwise you can find a low mileage used engine for under a grand almost all the time.... i wouldnt pay 3000 for a basically stock engine if it were me. Id build what i had.... unless the block is damaged in which case i would build a 402 stroker motor with l92 heads

What is a Gen II LS1 and what did they do to get 385hp?
Vote for Pedro.

If it were a project car, I could see doing something crazy, but it is a dd that averages 70 miles a day.
As far as the LS1 Gen II, thats what the dealership told me this morning, they showed me the paperwork
from GM on it, which listed the power output of 385HP. I told them to make sure the motor indeed did that
before ordering it, otherwise I will entertain the LS6, possibly the LS2.
