I was wondering if we can bore and stroke our engines to that of the Z06 427 cubic inch motor? I thought it was be pretty sweet to swap the LS1 in favor of the LS7 but I looked it up and they cost almost $14,000 without the dry sump oil lines, dry sump tank, engine beauty covers, engine processor (pcm), air filter/air box, accessories or accessory drive. Does anyone have any knowledge of a swap like this or would it be more practical to stroke the LS1?

Gets very expensive to get an LS1 to a 427. Needs stroke and bore. In order to bore that far, you need to sleeve it. And even that isn't always real strong.


Also...the LS7 makes roughly 450-460 RWHP. While that is a lot of power, it won't be nearly as fast as the Corvette with the same motor.

Well is there a way to get in the ballpark of that hp level without sleeving it and going w/ a power adder?

There are LS2 motors getting stroked to 402ci. 4" bore and 4" stroke.
Average cam and heads will make 450 RWHP fairly easily.

I have an LQ9 block stroked to a 402 in my car. 531 RWHP on motor. Large cam and average heads. 11:1 compression.

How did it work out? Is the LS7 the same dimensions as the LS1 or is it bigger??

Not really shoehorning...the blocks are the same size.

The LSx series all have the basic same design on the outside. I run an LQ9 truck block in mine, motor mounts are the exact same.

Sorry! I used there termanalogy! But they did have to put a tubular K-Member in for clearance of the dry sump system which took the place of the battery.

Im not sure, but in the pics, it looks like the intake is about 1" from the cowl.

I am going to use the word 'basicly' very loosely.

It is basicly an iron block LS2.
The block has little to do with power output.
The LQ9 is a truck block. 6.0L (364) stock, and I had mine stroked to 6.6L or 402ci.

Mr. Lous that sounds awesome! How does your truck block compare to the new LSX block that is coming out?

That thing will be badass. Damn near any amount of cubes you want.
My max cubes is 408. Alright at 402....so I am good.
Most that get the truck block get the 408 now, I got mine on special about 2 years ago now.

That was a fun process, watching you piece that thing together last winter. The best part, I think, was the lifters in the pan on the stove. "So, what's for dinner again???"

I don't know, but I think its been slighty basted with 5W-30...

I noticed the times of the postings are off....weird. Anyhow, I guess I'd just like to know what would be a cost effective way of adding cubes and hp w/out breaking the bank like purchasing a crate 7.0L would be for me. Is it expensive to get the engine rebuilt w/ a stroker crank and higher compression heads?
