    5w30 or 10w30?

I know the dealer recomends 5w30 oil but i recently switched from 10w30 to 5w30 and noticed alot more lifter noise. so i was wondering what you guys run and with what results. Is it ok to run 10w30. i just dont like all the lifter noise.

Well I believe 10w30 becomes lighter as it gets hot. For me I went from the factory recommended 10w30 down to 5w30. Not an ls1 but the results are good. I did'nt get the lifter noise but I did get a noticablely lower operating temp. My gas mileage improved to about 1.5-2 mpg.. Lifter noise may go away over time and continued use depending on the mileage of the engine. Many folks use a 0wXX with good results. You may want to do a UAO and see which is best for yours..

Penzoil Platinum 5W-30 Synthetic. I have the usual start up noise and then she quiets down after a little heat builds in the engine.

^^ Same thing I use in all our DD's -- never had any issues either and things seem to stay nice and clean under the valve covers and such.

as you know I had my top end apart over the winter and can tell you other than the usual brown hue on the oiled surfaces of the block there was no sludge build up of any kind.. 80+k on the ticker too. Got her with 26ish-k on the clock.

Tight tolerances don't always like the heavy stuff and can actually do more harm than good sometimes. I don't mess with mobil 1..
