yellow- 2001 corvette
550+ rw streetable hp out of a 383 ls1 N/A ?
I have a 2001 corvette that is gonna start to under go hopefully a nice change this winter. Im looking to do a fully built 383 ls1 all motor car and would like to try and get a streetable 550 ish streetable rwhp. Is that even possible? If so what would you guys recommend as far as heads, cam, stroker kit, rockers ect? My budget for parts is around $8-9k and dont need a block as i have a perfect one already. Any help is greatly appreciated.

550rwhp is 402 territory, even then most 402's will make low 500rwhp. There have been instances however where people have gotten 500rwhp out of the 346 and there is a write up by Patrick G who did. Search "Recipe for 500rwhp with 346". If you stick with the stock cu" expect 450rwhp luck and with a 383 anything tickling 500rwhp lucky. I would forge the motor you have leaving the stroke alone and get a s/c, 550 rwhp with heads and cam would be attainable with your current block that way.
Lastly E.T should be a goal over hp, as your suspension will have a lot to do with making the car fast as a whole.Last edited by c5z28; 10-24-2010 at 10:18 AM.

A fully forged 346 should allow you to run a procharger at a higher psi and a cam and get you over the 500hp mark. Of.course a good.set of ported heads would help.

From what I have been seeing on a lot of cats lately are turbo setups and they seem to be building good power and also prices dropping on the kits.

Sunset metallic orange- '01 Camaro SS
You could do texas speeds setup they won the LSX shoot out with a 9.62 1/4 mile time and with stock bottom end with just heads, cam, 90/90 intake made somewhere 650 hp at the flywheel so even If you lose a hundred through the driveline your still putting down 550 hp at the wheels thats the setup I just bought but I just can't afford to put it in yet
:-( "& now I'm sad" i need at least 2k to put it in and get three dyno pulls

550 might be a bit hard. I would be more than happy with high 400's and even 500 with a N/A built 383. Why not throw in a small shot of juice??

That is a full out drag car.
Not saying it can't be done....but that completely rules out 'streetable' in my opinion.
650 flywheel likely doesn't equal 550RWHP running through the drivetrain to handle that power either.
Congrats to TSP though!! Impressive for stock bottom end. I would love to know ALL of the specs on the car though. Any flycutting?? Compression? Gear?

Black- 2000 Z28
Since they already won the thing this year, and know that next year they'll need to do better than this, I suspect they'd be willing to let that info go. I mean they are in the business of selling car performance, and what better way to do that than kick everyone's ass on the racetrack, and then sell the bejeezus out of the winning combination?
