    500 RwHP What motor?

Whats a good engine set up to achieve 460-500hp. I've been looking for strokers and I'm Undecided on what I should invest on. I'm looking for a good mannered engine that I can still go out of town in. Any suggestions?

LS3 with a cam and bolt-ons should get that pretty easily

on the vettes guys are averaging around 380-385 rwhp on a dynojet with an ls3. I'm not sure a cam and bolt ons will get you 115 rwhp but maybe close. I'd say a stroker with a cam and headwork will get you there and maintain low rpm driveability pretty easily.

    I've seen bolt-on, H/C/I LS1's hit 500rwhp. No reason why he can't hit his goal of 460-500.

Not tame ones like the thread starter wants.

    LS2 402 with mid-range cam (240 duration and 610 lift on a 113) and good heads.

One thing I will never understand is why people have RWHP goals....rather than an ET goal or just enjoying the car...

Right...but not going to find 500 RWHP without a monster cam, therefore not really being tame.

Although again....dyno numbers should NEVER be a goal.

my dyno numbers were a goal, but its way more fun to enjoy the car rather than worry about numbers....now the only numbers i care about are my ET&MPH

Dyno numbers mean shit. You can make 500rwph on dynojet and run a low 10 if your going through a ford 9 inch and a turbo 400. Power eaters. Dyno numbers mean shit. Have fun and enjoy the car instead of worrying about bragging numbers. I would go 6.0 boosted. Cheapest route anyone can go....

LS7 makes 440RWHP give or take.
Costs $14K for the crate motor. Very expensive for the power.

    ET is track times.

    Just a little 402.

LS7 is out of the question if your talking horsepower per dollar ratio's. Your going to pay a few thousand more for an engine thats only making mid 400's. 402/8, PRC heads, 240's cam, FAST 92/92 will get you to the magical 500 RWHP number.

Forced induction should be looked into also, You can have your 500 rwhp, and have much more HP potential then any NA engine. Reading up on different supercharger/turbocharger system would be a good thing to do before jumping into a NA project.

    OP,

If I were you I would get little cam 224/228 on 114 LSA, D1SC Procharger (8psi), fuel pump, Mototron 60's, and a good tune. You will have right around what you were looking for power wise and the driveability will be good.

    402

At the time, the LS2 block was a decent amount more, and they were still getting the harness set-up for the changes in sensor locations. It has been running with the 402 for five years now,

Mr.lous How about a low 10 with a 402 on a T/A Is it possible and still have it as a DD I just got the BMR Drag set up and a performabuilt tranny with a 3k Stall...next is a strange s10 with 3.73 i was thinking. Fastest I ran with a stock Ls1 and rear gears was a 12.4

402 with L92heads, all the suporting mods and a well matched cam is the cheapest way to your goal. It will be very streetable too as L92 heads don't need big cams to make big #'s.
