    5.3L heads and cam

i was going to buy a cam package from texas speed next week but they also have a heads and cam package that caught my eye. its stage 2.5 5.3L heads and any cam i choose. double spring kit and pushrods. I dont know a whole lot about changing out heads. besides gaskets and new bolts will i need anything else to put these heads on? i was going to get the 228R cam before i saw the heads package and is that still a good cam to go with or should i go bigger with the new heads? Thanks

    Hey Matt,
I think that could be a nice set up, what are your mods now?,are you m6 or auto?
Your car's a 98 so I suggest timing chain and oil pump

its a 98 ss m6. mods now are loudmouth exhaust. slp k&n cold air intake, slp maf, i also have on the way an 85mm intake and pacesetter lt headers. ya i already bought an ls2 timing chain and and ls6 oil pump for when i put the cam in. how difficult is putting on new heads? i was wanting to know all the extra material i will need to do a head and cam install over just a cam install

Does Texas Speed sell those heads with perimiter style bolts for the 98? If not you'll need new valve covers and coil pack rails.

also a fine wire wheel for a drill or a 90° to clean the block deck.....dont use ANYTHING more aggressive than that.
its actually a very easy job to do. took about 8-9 hour on mine, but probably 5 of those hours was porting the heads
