5.3 heads for the camaro question

I got some 5.3 heads Im going to put 2.02 1.57 valves in them and then pocket port them. The cam Im looking to get is the TR244 -114lsa. My question is with stock pistons am I going to have to flycut them? I did a search on it and it looks like as long as I dont mill them and I'm below .600 lift Ill be ok. Just looking for confirmation. I paid $100 bucks for the heads thats one of the reasons I got them. Thanks!

you should always check your piston to valve clearance.....you never know, the heads could have been milled before you got them.

go to Lowes and buy 2 long light springs (i forget exactly what section I found them in) they are about 1" wide and 3"s long

easiest way to do it is use your old gasket and bolt the head back down with the weak(test) springs , pushrods and torqued rockers.
turn the engine over by hand several times while pushing down on the valve to be sure it clears at all points it the rotation.....most critical spot is before top dead center with the intake valve opening.

its a PITA, but do it or risk an early rebuild

That's what I figured. Thanks for the advise! I'll have to make a trip to Lowes. Thanks again.

You will be fine if those heads have never been milled.

And it is duration that plays the biggest factor in whether a cam will clear not lift. Max lift occurs with the piston near bottom dead center.......
