408cid cam
I'm thinking about building an 408 cid iron short-block, with ported PRC L92 cylinder heads. I want this motor to be my daily driver, but I want to get the most out of the motor and still drive it to work everyday. So my question is what cam should I get for this engine. I know that if I was putting a cam in my stock cid LS1 then 224/224 to 228/228 would be good to go. But I was told that the sze of the engine pays a factor in the size of the cam that's needed, and I don't know too many people who has a 408 in their car. So if anybody reads this and has some good advice please feel free to tell me. Thank You

Funny you ask this I just called Texas Speed Performance two days ago and had this same question. I am going the same route with engine and heads, When I called Texas Speed I talked with a guy named Matt and I orginally wanted to go with the Magic Stick Four camshaft. Matt at Texas Speed, told me that with L92 heads depending on who you buy them from that the Magic Stick 3 camshaft would be a better choice for the 408 and the L92 Heads. Because of the double springs on the Patriot L92 Heads I bought which the double valve springs bottom out at .650 and the Magic Stick 4 camshaft lifts to .649 and would be to extreme for the heads. And with the magic stick three it would fit nicley into my package.
Here is there information if you want to call them:

Streetable, and a mean powerband in a 408.
It all depends on what you want out of it. Track? Gears? M6? A4?
I have a 248/254 629/622 113 in my 402. But it sits in the garage most of the time. Drives great though when I do have it out. Cam loves my 4.11 gears with the M6.

They are the springs that came on the heads.
They are good to .650"
I don't see much reason to go over .630" or so on a hydraulic roller cam anyways. If I go with a bigger cam, the lift will stay about where it is. Up the duration and drop the LSA a little.
If you go solid roller then go as big as you want.

It is an unported FAST 90/90.
For now. Should get a port on it soon. Probably not for 2008 though. Too much going on outside the garage.

I am running stockers. Eventually I will have them rebuilt at Harland Sharp.

Me?
It gets 4,000 miles a year or so. I took it to work (15-16 miles each way) about once a week in the summer.

Yea sorry not to be more specific, How does it drive when you are out in town in traffic and on the interstate? Does it get hot or not like to be driven in either or highway or local driving? Just am curious cause I ordered a 408 from TSP and I drive my car two to three days a week to Longmont about 45 miles away. And am very curious to see what I should expect or just not do.

Never gotten too hot or anything. Really low RPM's buck a little, but a little more work on the tune should take care of that.
I took it on 200 mile LSx cruises last summer. Did fine.

Mr. Luos-
Nice, How many hours of dyno tunning did you need when you put your new motor in? Just so I can know what to expect money wise.

2-3 hours on the dyno and 2 hours on the street. Still needs a little more time on the lower RPM's. But I am waiting to change a couple minor things before getting with my tuner again.
