    402 Good or Bad?

What is all this stuff I hear about not using the SLP 402 short block? What specifically is bad about it and what are alternitive short/long blocks that are "good"?

Heard a lot of bad things about it. I would go elsewhere to look.

Sucks isn't a strong enough word.
I don't think there is actually any customer service offered from SLP.

The motor itself...biggest thing I keep hearing is smoke issues.
And for the same price (or better) you can get a good shop to build one for you.

nevermind........I looked it up, you can get it both ways...........Are they having problems with both the aluminum and the iron block or just one or the other? Does anyone know of any problems with the block itself? Can you buy just a block? Does anyone other than GM offer just the block(assuming that they have just a block?)Also, is it possible to stroke or destroke the 402's? Has anyone on here done this.........thanks

    Probably not stroke a 402. A 402 is a stroked 6.0L block.
    You can destroke it.

I'm running one with a 76mm Turbo and haven't had any problems with it at all.....It is made with top quality parts and you can't beat the price......as far as customer service goes I've never had a problem with them either....believe me....I'm a huge stickler on good customer service....

    BTW...
My TSP iron block 402 just made 512 RWHP with a TSP cam and Patriot heads. I think it was less before I upgraded the rods than the SLP POS.
Tune isn't even spot on yet....that gets done Saturday.
