    400 rwhp cam only

Virginia speed, one of the better ls1 shops told me they would be able to easily get me to 400 rwhp with just a cam. i can understand getting 20 or 30 hp out of a cam, but 70-80+, cam only?

id say 400 is reachable with a full exhaust and cam relatively easily, it would have to be a big cam....IMO MS3 or such and one hell of a tune

you will definitely need full bolt ons. a fast 92/92 combo should seal the deal if you land just under 400 with the ls6 intake. fast gives a good increase when you change internals, but stock bottom end it isnt a big jump unless you are on a number hunt.

wait til the 10 bolt is replaced with a quality piece. the weight will lower that number.

Why so much focus on only hp? Get that torque up there too with a nice flat curve so the power is available wherever, whenever.

15 degree heads are wonderfull. Which is why these motors respond so well to a simple camshaft upgrade.

yeah it is doable on a good tune with cam and supporting mods. Virgina Speed is a great shop also.

    thanks,

which happens to be why trick flow heads are so effective. they offer 13.5 degree heads. i don't know if it is just their top of the line heads or all of their lsx heads.

Cam,headers and stall here, and 400 + on HP. But not really a dyno person here. All that matters is track times for me.

Ya that's an advantage for Trickflow. LS7 heads are even better at 12 degrees.

I've been wondering one thing about these cam only #'s. How do they drive, and what are thier characteristics?

If you put in a big cam that gets you in the range of 400+hp that motor is surely going to feel a lot different than one with a much milder cam and head package making 420+hp ... or am I totally wrong?

I am hoping to join the 400+ rwhp club here shortly (when I get a tune). My cam is a 230/230 .612/.592 111+2 on a mail order tune. People kept saying that thing will have shitty street manners, blah blah.. Honestly, if u think this cam has bad street manners you should keep your car stock. Just my .02

"Manners" or "Driveability" are a bit subjective, what one person thinks is fine could be untolerable to someone else...but when I mentioned how a big cam 400+hp motor might feel different than a mild head/cam 400+hp motor I was thinking more along the lines of each build being fit to a different task or driving style. Just theory on my part, I haven't tried 2 such different motors, but wouldn't the hp/torque curves and other factors be very different between the two?
