Welcome!
One of the best upgrades for any LS engine is a set of long tube headers. There are also gains to be had with the induction system - just don't mess with the MAF. Once you install some upgrades then a tune is highly recommended to take advantage of what all has been done. What vehicle does the 4.8 reside in?

Not the right engine family. That is for
Pontiac 265-455 c.i. 8 cyl. 1955-1981
You need to look for GM GEN III family of motors (LSx 1997 - 2007).
Here are several options from COMP Cams for your 4.8.
COMP Cams: XFI™ Xtreme Truck
Also when doing a camshaft swap WAIT on ordering push rods. You need to measure for them after the heads are installed. Reason why is if you have any work on the heads like milling (for flatness) the geometry of the valve train has changed. COMPCAMs sells a push rod checker for $20. You need the one that goes from 6.8" to 7.8" like so.
COMP Cams: Hi-Tech Checking Pushrod 6.800"-7.800"

Agree. And you may as well add an oil pump to the list as well.

If you email Brian from BTR Racing or Martin from Tick Performance, let them know what you have and what your plans are they will both give you a package deal on what will work best for your goals.
They both design cams and are very knowledgeable in LS motors.
Hell I've read that guys are using 4.8 cranks and destroking 5.3 and 6.0 liters and using a cam design for 10,000 rpm runs with turbos and getting hellacious amounts of power/tq.Last edited by SMWS6TA; 09-09-2015 at 07:12 PM.
