Does My V6 Have A Governor?

Ive never shut my car off before, and was wondering if it had a governor, and about what speed it would shut off...thanks.

it wont do 125, its mechanically limited to 118, with an a4 anyway, once your in 4th gear, at about 5k rpms, the wind resistance overpowers your motor. It doesnt shut down or anything, but it doesnt sound like a happy car, and just wont go any faster, mines a 95, yours is a 2000, so who knows, maybe it will do 125, but 118 is only 7 less, you wont be doing it that often.

Tires are speed rated, some tires are only rated to do 120MPH, some 140MPH, others 160MPH etc. If you have tires on your car that are only rated for 120MPH, your top speed limiter would be set at 120MPH.

I had a stock 98 V6 M6 ( or M5..whatever they had, I was 18, can't remember ) and I went 125 easily without any signs of running out of speed. I also shut it down right when it hit 125, so who knows what would have happened if I kept going.

First of all it was a 5 speed.
But yea the M5 could top out later then the A4. The A4 stopped at 125, M5 top at out at like 135-140

it matters what it left the factory with. should have left with 235/55-16 "T" rated tires. the speed rating for a "T" tire is 118 mph. for legal reasons, GM can't sell you a car that can do more than the rated tire it leaves the factory with. this is why they set the mph limiter to match the tire speed rating.

even z28 cars that come with the 235/55-16 "T" rated tires are limited to 118 mph from the factory.

my v6 ran 147 down the highway...took forever though...

I think stock it would only pull around 119-122 somewhere in there, then the car got pissed and didn't want to go anymore...
