    2010 CTS 4 engine noise

I picked up a new ride a few weeks ago. Under the hood is the 3.0 direct injection 270 hp engine. On initial startup, and also in the lower gears while driving, the engine noise is somewhat harsher than I anticipated it would be. Never having had one of these before, so I just don't know if it is the norm... but I suspect it is. Under the engine cover, I found that GM had installed sound deadening material on top of the valve covers -- something I have never seen before on any other car. Anyone heard one of these things run?

All Direct Injection injectors are loud. The 3.6 has sound deadening wrapped all over the place also. I'm guessing you've got some ticking?

Yup, the most of the chain driven GM dohc v6's are noisey.

They remind me of the naturally noisey Iron Duke 2.5L 4cyl sometimes.

In the 10' Camaro 3.6 DI, you can even sometimes hear the chain moving across the tensioners when you free rev them.

    Nature of the beast..

The exhaust is too quiet imho.

Unless the Challenger is a DI motor, the Caddie is the first that I have driven. Makes the LS1 sound quiet on cold start up in comparison. I agree, the exhaust is way too quiet. The Challenger has a throaty rumble to it while the Caddie just sort of makes noise. I looked into a catback, but nothing seems to fit as it is AWD.

Well you can do as I do an fab up a new exhaust.

You can also change mufflers for a more desired sound.

I'd be afraid of it sounding even more shitty than it does now if I fabbed a system. It seems that V6 engines are much more sensitive when it comes to achieving the desired exhaust note.

Yes and no really.. A dohc v6 will not sound like a 2-valve v6, 2 totally different sounds.

Yup DI engines injectors are a lot louder than port-injected. That's why they all have the sound deadening material, it isn't just Caddilac.

Hey Smittro, you aren't a fan of DOHC V6s, are you?

Just have to get used to it, I guess. Dawn's Challenger just sounds so much better than the CTS.

What year Challenger is it? Does it have Chrysler's new 3.6 DOHC? Is that one DI?

It's a 2012 with the new 3.6 engine. Not sure if it is DI though.

It's the 3.6L Pentastar DOHC v6 and currently the only V6 Chrysler Corp. is producing.

It is found in every v6 platform they offer to date.
