Strut Tower Brace for Convertible
I'm not sure whether to post this here or in the convertible section, so I'll put it here, since it will probably get more attention. Mods please move if necessary.
I've read up on some people's take on the strut tower brace and most seem to consider it not worth the cash. However, I am wondering whether a convertible would benefit more from the brace since it is more prone to flex than a coupe (and presumably T-tops as well).
Thinking about it, it seems like it should make a difference, since it would seem like the area most susceptible to flex should be the front end where the motor is bolted up... (?)
I have a set of bolt-in sub frame connectors, which I will someday weld in, but anyone own/driven a vert with/without the strut tower brace and did you notice a difference?

I've heard several positive comments although I'll agree that there are more neg than pos.
I tend to think the same way, as long as it is a 3 point brace i.e. strut to firewall to strut
Sadly, I don't have one yet. I'd rather have SFC's first. But it's on my list for sure
Nice looking vert BTWLast edited by MeanGreen98; 03-07-2011 at 10:29 AM. Reason: props

I'd do it on a convertible because you have more flexing. I'd do subframes first tho

I have both TSB and SFC's My only wish is that I went to 3 point instead of 2. Most say they feel no difference, but I do. Compare mine to my neighbors T/A and the 2 handle so different. He said mine drives like it's on rails.

Interesting feedback. For as simple as it is, the only real reason not to get it would be the performance/dollar ratio. I'm reconsidering getting one, now...

Now I would recommend getting a Tunnel Brace with DSL before the TSB for a vert

I saw those and thought against getting one for that exact reason. I knew I was going to be taking off my TSB for an intake swap and other stuff. 2 point I only have to remove 4 bolts and its off I'm getting mine powder coated NBM in the next few weeks. Nothing against black or red, but it does clash with a NBM car.

I'll probably just go with a two-point brace, then, especially since I still haven't finished modding my upper end.

I put them on. The effect is clearly noticable if you're going any faster than "casual." I first noticed the difference on my way home from installing them. It was dark and I was on an unfamiliar road. My turn kinda snuck up on me and I didn't have enough time to slow down to the normal speed to take a turn. I took it probably 6 or 7 mph faster than I should have. Anyway, the car changed direction sharply and with no percievable roll.
Also, on curvy freeway onramps, I can go WOT without the car leaning (I also have aftermarket suspension, but, the SFCs made noteworthy difference here, too).

It was a while ago but I'm remembering a bunch of members bitching about cracked windshields from the 3 point STBs.
