    Wink Steering Gear Assy Leaking...

My steering gear assymbly is leaking and i need to replace it. I was wondering if anyones replaced theirs so far. I tried to remove it but couldnt get the drivers side mount bolt out because the top of the bolt hit the oil pan. How do I get the Drivers side Mount bolt out? also where should I get the replacment part? The dealer wants $800, GM parts direct wantes $450 and Auto Zone wants $275ish. Any suggestions?

to get the driver's bolt out, you can do one of two things. the correct way is to lift the motor until you can pull the bolt out. the way i do it is i lift the bolt up and cut it in half. then slide it out. get a new bolt and push up from the bottom and put the nut on top.

What did you use to cut the bolt and when you replaced your steering gear assembly, where did you get your part from? Dealer? GM Parts Direct? autozone?

take pass bolt up to home depot and match one up. home depot 'round my way recently acquired one hellofa bolt selection. -this will save ya a couple a bucks and a trip to the nitwit shop.
cut it w/ a sawzall or band saw. since you're gettin new rack be careful to chew that up before ya chew up k-member mounts.

i got one at the salvage yard and it was really cheap and works great and i took the bolt out of the drivers side motor mount and jacked the motor until i could pop the bolt out...when you put it back in make sure you put it in upside down so the nut is on top!
