    NHRA sway bar

    Hello all,

I have a 02 NHRA Trans am. The other day I measured the front and rear sway bar. The front measured in at 35mm and the rear at 19mm. My question is why does this car have a 35mm front sway bar? I thought those only went to firehawks? I'm the second owner of the car and the parts are all original. I confirmed that the bar was never changed with the original owner. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Welcome to the site. I honestly do not know the stock sway bar size on our cars -- took mine off last year. I can go measure it for comparison sake if you'd like me to.

I think my 02 SS came with the same 35mm front and rear 19mm bars. In the NHRA world a front sway bar is taboo, racers usually take them off to help with weight transfer.
My ride is a 2002 Camaro SS SLP #3296 with 30k, LTH, 3" Y, CME, Frost tune, K&N, ported TB, Blackwing lid, Bellows, MSD, Denso Iridium, and 85mm MAF, Bilsteins, Eibach springs, SLP strut brace, Adj. Panhard, TA Girdle, UMI, Pro 5.0, Nitto NT555
My wife has a 2004 GTO with the rare SAP, 18" wheels, K&N Cold Air System, MSD, Ported TB, Frost tune, Denso Iridium, Flowmaster cat-back, 3200 Yank, 75k

Not trying to be negative, but the NHRA Edition Trans Am's were pretty much only a trim package. In comparison to other T/A's, they are not much more "NHRA" about them beyond the stickers. The suspension is pretty much the same as equally optioned "M" and "G" code models.

(Kinda like how the Bonnie's never raced the Salt Flats, GP's never raced the Gran' Prix and Trans Am's weren't in the Trans Am series.)
