    Changing jounce bumper/bump stops???

I was flipping through the new SLP catalog when I saw the part about jounce bumpers for 17" wheels. It says they are needed when upgrading a 16" wheel car to 17" wheels. My car rides a little harsh [mods in sig] on these damn Ohio roads. So I was wondering if I got the new bump stops, would they make any difference in reducing the ride harshness? I would think that would allow a little more axle travel. I was thinking of getting them if my stock bumpstops are torn up.

I don't think you should be hitting the bump stops just driving on crappy roads unless you are one of them DUKE boys jumping things.

They are bigger and will give you less suspension travel. I trimmed mine down for a little extra travel.

If your overall tire diameter hasn't changed from 26.1 then the suggestion to change the bump stoppers doesn't make sense to me. Spring / shock travel is unaffected.

I replaced the stops on my 95 because the rubber had torn away from the mounting. Factory replacements were $20 each at significantly discounted pricing.

I just bought new bump stops from GMdirect, they were $45 shipped. Mine were extremely worn down. You should be able to look at your current bump stops and be able to tell if they need replacing. I don't see a reason to honestly get the jounce bumpers unless you plan to get 17" inch wheels in the future.

    Are you lowered at all?

My car had 245/50/16 on 16" stock. I upgraded to 275/40/17 on 17" WS6 wheels, and lowered my car on factory WS6 springs. Just trying to see if there was anything I could do to soften my ride a little.

If you are hitting your jounces regularly then you are probably passing a little blood from your kidneys as well. Even though I drive the worst roads in the US, the jounces rarely (if ever) have made contact with the axle. My jounces had no wear on them after 100k miles. They came apart from rust. If you want a softer ride you definitely don't want a lowered car; my lowered 01 literally beats the piss out of me. When tire profiles get to the point when they have 3-4 inches of rubber from road to rim, you have very limited sidewall deflection and nothing in regard to shock absorption as you already realize. Besides the lowering from your suspension, your car also sits .25 inches lower due to the 40% tire profile. Sam Strano is the suspension expert that I know of. Maybe he can help.

don't waste your $... it's worse with the jouncer spacer than without and the SS bumpstop makes a worse job than the Z28 version... trust me on this one... ppl that race for handling, if they have an SS, they swap for the Z28 version.
    Leave it as is.

Hmm, typically Z28 bumpers were/are cream/beige if I remember correctly. Maybe they changed them?

More I think about it, I think the Z28 and SS bumpers are the same. The SS had the metal plate that was added for added spacing I think.
