A C5 brake conversion is a retrofit kit designed to enable somebody with a car that is not a C5 Corvette to install the brakes from a fifth-generation Corvette on their car.

It usually would be a caliper and rotor kit. I don't have any idea what kit the thread starter was referring to, but usually a kit like that would be the whole deal. And yes, there are C5, C6, and CTS-V brake conversion kits for 4th-gen Camaros. Caliper + rotors.

the basic kit consists of brackets that pull your calipers farther out so you can fit a larger diameter c5 rotor. No more force being applied to the caliper, but the extra leverage of the larger rotor makes for better braking. 17" wheels minimum, otherwise they won't fit.
6litereater sells a nice kit, if you want to upgrade check them out
KYSpeed also has several kits worth looking at

I didn't realize there were sets to do just the larger rotor. I always wanted the extra braking power, so I only looked at the C5 Z06, C6 Z06, and CTS-V caliper + rotor installation kits.

What is the general motivation behind swapping just the C5 rotors? Slightly more surface area, better heat distribution, and fill up a bigger rim? Seems like you might as well kick out the extra couple of Benjamins to get the better calipers too, since you are already swapping out the brackets and rotors.

I'll try and explain it best i can, the further out the caliper is, the easier it is for it to slow the car down. Like when you're trying to loosen a bolt with a wrench, the longer the wrench and the further out you're pulling, the easier it is to loosen. The conversion kit acts the same way just backwards. Am i making sense?

I get it. Because you are further from the center of the axle, you are able to exert more force against it through leverage, therefore increasing the performance of your brakes. Still would make the step up to Z06 hardware though, personally

It's irrelevant for me now; my plan is to pick up a Z06 next anyway. I only answer questions on here because I had to find the answers to all these questions for myself when I had my fourth-gen.

oh lord.....the c5 calipers and c5 z06 calipers are no different in stopping power. they are cast different to prevent spreading .....the real difference in braking power from those kits comes from the rotors..not the calipers.
to the op and others...have you ever addressed the braking bias and the change throwing bigger rotors and claipers will do in terms of breaking stability and such?
i will continue this in a little bit..my job calls

i have been heavily looking into this subject on more of a cosmetic point of view..as the f-body, c5 and c5 z06 calipers look ugly. However on performance..it is widely agreed that for most apps the stock f-body caliper is more than sufficient in terms of stopping power...especially in the rear. The fronts are usually more than enough with a simple brake pad change.
it is never as simple as get braking system from X car and throw it onto Y car... i would highly suggest you do some real research on brakes and bias before you just bolt some things on...

let me make one thing clear tho..a c5 brake conversion will not mess up your car...you can buy it and run it ...you will see a improvement in braking due to the larger rotor .....
BUT it is worth noting that the c5 and c5 z06 caliper uses 40mm pistons compared to the 44mm f body pistons.....GM did this to "balance" the rear and the front bias ........so basically i am saying keep the stock calipers and run the larger rotor to see a real braking improvements......the rears on our cars help a little too much anyways so a c5 rotor with our calipers will help shift the bias more to the forwards .........also a good rule of thumb is to keep the bias within 5% if at all possible.

I always wanted C6 Z06 brakes, which actually are a step up. But he is right, you don't NEED that any more than a 100-pound 5' chick need DDs.
