    Best boltons for autox

Hey everyone. I'm in the process of getting a trans am and was wondering what are the best mods for an autox.

I have read the sub frame connectors make a huge improvement. Is SLP any better than UMI?

Also, I have seen torque arms, sway bars, front arms, tower braces, etc. Which do the most for the money?

EDIT: crap I could have sworn I was clicked suspension and handling. moderators please move.

You could also post this in the autox section. There are alot of guys that autox their t/a 's , me included.
Suspension and tires will give you the most improvement.

    Too many

umi is a great company, i would trust them over SLP.

your stock t/a will do fine, especially if you're just starting out. if you want to do this, i would take the car out stock and just learn how to drive it and how it handles to begin with. once you can drive the car and feel comfortable with and improve on your driving, then get some shocks (koni's ) and if funds afford it some good working springs (such as Sam Strano's) and then re-learn how to drive it

If you want to get into autox, you need to research the rules for the different classes. I've got F-stock and ESP setups that are proven winners time and time again (3 of my Championships are in ESP, two in my 2001 Z28).

F-bodies and autox are two things I know.

I'm joining NASA, but as far as I know they don't have restrictions. But I'd rather have an amazing handling car then win an autox in a lower rank. Winning isn't everything (and since I'm young I wouldn't anyways) and I want a nice car over a limited one.

On a side note does SCCA have open track days? or at least the autox that has longer stretches?

Sure they do, but they do their classing a different way. Autocross is autocross, you are talking more about track days. We also do setups for those too, but this is why I was telling you to research what and where you want to run.

best mod is seat-time and alignment.
    both are fairly cheap.
after that, i'd go w/ shocks and brake pads.

Most importantly, spend time/$ behind the wheel instead of moding the car first.

Yeah, simple things will move you into advanced classes. For example... toss on some Subframe Connectors and you move way up the list.

Seat time, seat time, seat time.

Work on the driver first, than start on the car.

Keep in mind also that (in terms of SCCA classing) that SFC and springs will throw you out of stock class competition and into ESP. You need to figure out if you want to get out of autocross before you start throwing parts on the car.

Just a reminder that SFC's are now legal in ESP for 2008 and beyond. Finally. Those of you stuck in SM or CP only because you have SFC's can come back to ESP to play!

I'd say some used rims and good rubber would be a great investment for auto-x. Also the driver mod is by far the most potent!

ditto... thats a really big announcement for me. I really want to try an auto-x or two and I was put off by the SFC rule. Looks like 2008 will be a good year!

I found an SCCA club here in Louisville but I always work Sundays which is when 90% of the sessions are done. I need some seat time like no other! Got some C5Z wheels sitting in the garrage just begging to be abused.

By the way Sam, love what you are doing for us in auto x. Keep it up.

yeah I really don't care. I'm competing with friends more than everyone else. I'm confident I can beat them, but its their dads that I'll have trouble with. One's got an Elise and the other a 06 6 series coupe.

The Elise and Miata's rule Auto-X where I live (Class rules are different esp. wester Canada).

But get them on a road course and it becomes a different story
