I would crawl under the car and see if you see any metal on metal contact anywhere. The metal will be shiny. The problem areas are the exhaust where is goes over the axle, the torque arm, and possibly your bump stops since you are lowered.

The bump stops are there to improve your ride quality while protecting your vehicle's suspension. You should not be bottoming out. I only mentioned that because you mentioned you had lowering springs. What setting is your shocks on? Maybe try stiffening them up some if you are contacting there. Or, perhaps your bump stops are deteriorated and need to be replaced. Maybe the sound you are hearing is metal on metal contact.

old thread but i saw this and i had to tell ya, check the sway bar bushings in the back of the car. the ones that mount to the frame. mine are rounded out just enough where even the slightest movement up and down causes a thud or clunking sound in the back. i ordered from Summit the Energy urethane rear sway bar bushing package for the stock size (19mm or .75 for my 1999 Z28). check those bushings because if they are worn even the least bit it lets that sway bar move around and it makes a racket.

You know what else it was, it was also the bushings were worn out in the old lower control arms the previous owner had installed. I bought some cheapo founders performance eBay lca,s for $68 shipped. No more clunking, none. The cheap eBay lcas are actually damn nice ofr the money. Next issue causing noise I think is my beat to hell u joints which I'm sure have never been replaced.

Another thing to keep in mind, if you're lowered, is you need to have an adjustable torque arm. If not, the pinion angle will not be correct, and can cause damage to drivetrain componants like the u-joints, pinion bearing, ect..
