Exclamation Ball Joint is popping and boot is GONE

Alright.. so when doing some brake work I found out the ball joint that goes to my rack and pinion steering on the passenger side is fried..
Im going to replace both at the same time.. SO....
    1. Where do I get a replacement?
    2. Front end alignment is neccesary.. correct?
    3. Do I need a press for the ball joint?

You can get an outer tie rod end from an auto parts store. No, you do not need a ball joint press.

IMO, I would get it aligned.

ive never worked on many balljoints cept on my WWII jeep.. had the pitman arm, the steering shaft and the ball joints fall all at once while driving down the road..

So.. considering I was going only about 15mph in the jeep.. i dont want this to happen at high speed on me...

Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance......

    Thanks

well a ball joint doesn't go to the rack and pinion. an inner tie rod does.

if you are replacing the tie rod, then an alignment will be necessary to ensure the toe is set correctly.

seeing as you are not replacing a ball joint, then no press is needed.

Once it has been removed (the tie rod) a alignment must be done.

incorrect on what he is wanting to do. he is going to remove it from the spindle and replace the boot. this will not affect the toe setting.

you'll have to get the tire up off the ground to relieve the weight off of it. you cannot get to the tie rod nut without removing the tire.
