    Whats wrong with my clutch?

ok so somewhere in my system is a slow leak...my dad had this car before me.....he had to put about a capful of brake fluid in it a month....every once in awhile, if you let it get low, the pedal would go soft and sit on the floor....cant disengage it....and it happens quick, one push feels normal, next push is dead.

put a little fluid in it, pump it a few times, and itd come right back.

well ive had the car 2 weeks now and it did it to me....but i cant get the pedal back....i cranked it, in gear, pedal on the floor, in just a few seconds, it bled out, engaged, and died....put more fluid in it, and limped in the 2 miles home.

i took the rubber think out of the reservoir and filled it all the way up, this gave me a soft pedal, but enough to get home...by the time i covered that two miles, the pedal was only rising back up about 2 inches...reservoir is full

theres never been a visible leak, no drips or anything.

You ran it out of fluid and you got air in the system. Need to bleed the clutch slave cylinder. A bitch of a job if you don't have the right tools. I like a deep 7/16", 1/4" dr socket and a 1/4" dr breaker bar.

well thats the thing...the fluid gets a little low...but there is always plenty in the reservoir when ive looked at it...never needs more than a capful of fluid.

ill def look into that though....theres a sticky on clutch problems..and thats def what the symptoms act like

ok well if i take the chance of driving my car back to my parents (60 miles) i can get my slave swapped out for 200 plus parts....ill assume $100 for parts, so $300...not the most reputable place, but from what ive heard, hes good with manuals, not autos...and its just a slave swap.

my second option is my shop here, very reputable place, they quoted me $407 parts and labor. i like this place, its right by my apartment, and theyll hook me up with a rent car, or drive me somewhere if i need to.

3rd option is an actual transmission shop, highest reputation, considered the best shop in east texas, about 5 miles away, 400 plus parts...so most expensive, and i think this place may be overkill for just swapping out a slave cylinder.

if i go with my first option, my dad may pay for it....i just got this car from him 700 miles ago, and he knew the slave was getting bad. second option...i dunno

Sounds like when the Master Cyl. went out on mine. Except I didn't have any leaks. And you can change that yourself.

yeah we actually bought a master...thinking that was it

but were thinking slave since fluid is leaking from the bell housing, and i do still have some pedal resistance.

Hopefully yours doesn't shell out like mine did....took the master out, and took pieces of the clutch with it.....literally BOOM man....it was bad. This was over two years ago though, so I'm all better now
