transmission synchros
Can anybody describe what the transmission synchros feel like when they go out when you shift?
For the last yr , I've been having issues shifting from 2nd to 3rd. Thought it was the clutch and have installed as of last Sat - LS7 Clutch kit, QT Bell housing, New Master and Slave, New hydraulic Clutch line. I'm still having the same issue.
I am thinking it might be the synchros but I'm not sure.
Help?

It only grinds when I do a quick/hard shift. If I shift normal/easy nothing, but if I get to banging gears I grind them easy. Driving me nuts...

Can't afford a tranny rebuild.... FFFFUUUUU
I just baby it for a while more. I see I won't get it on the track this yr.
Thanks for inputs.
Shady, after I made my first post I google them and transmissions. I now know what their purpose is but it doesn't take the embarrassment you feel when they grind.

Oh no I wasn't offended, just replying to your post. I apply the same thinking. If I can understand it I can fix it.

Honestly, most of the time when you pull apart these T56's, the synchros are not that bad. It's the tolerances that cause these trannys to grind and shift hard. Once these trannys get miles on them, the bearings loosen up. The bearings last a really long time and just shimming the bearings cures most issues. Of course when you do dig into it to do this maintenance, it is best or wise to replace with carbon fiber synchros, billit keys and steel shift fork.
It is said that most parts are pretty strong on the T56, and just setting up the tolerances can make the tranny handle a lot of power.
