    transmission ideas

so I'm about a week or 2 away from purchasing a new tranny for my TA. Im not looking to get crazy, i just want something a little better than a stock tranny that is good for a bone stock car that is going to be daily driven. any ideas?

Why not have the one you have upgraded? It'd be cheaper for the same amount of work.

i've thought about it but i dont want to get into a rebuild that is going to cost as much or maybe more than buying a new one. i checked into having it rebuilt and it was going to be a couple hundred dollars cheaper than buying a new one that i had my eye on. but then again, that's why i posted this. i'm trying to get some ideas

The first time I had mine upgraded, to a Stage 2, it only ran about $1100 with shipping. Had 2nd gear replaced too. I would rather upgrade than replace with stock, if given the choice. That's just me though. If you've got a line on a new tranny for the same price as a rebuild, then go that route.

The unit I had my eye on is a stage 4 I believe from kyspeed.com so it wouldn't be just a stock tranny. Just not sure if that would be a practical unit for my stock car that will be daily driven

The stock T56 has some very weak points, many of which can break with even stock power. I crushed my synchro keys at just 12K miles and I don't really drive my car "that" hard.

The other weak link is the 3-4 shift fork. It tends to bend since it's aluminum.

I would suggest a rebuild and upgrade those items as well as the fork pads, that way you really don't ever have to worry about it.

You need to look at Tick or TDP. TDP will rebuild it with the Viper 31 spline main for like $1300. But if your not going to be beating on the car, just get the level 2 which is like a $700 rebuild.
