t56 rattle. HELP trans guys!!!
ok so heres the deal. went to pull out of my garage this morning and noticed and unusual sound. i would describe this sound as a metal on metal, tinny, from the tranny and rattling. seems like possibly a bearing. only does it when the car is in gear. notice it even more when coasting in gear, goes away slightly under a load. goes away completly when the clutch is depressed. the clutch was replaced at a dealer in 2007 at 16,700 miles and now only has 25,550 miles. dont reallly drive the car hard. really not sure where to go from here.
throwout bearing? pilot bearing? or input shaft bearing? something else?
thanks in advance.
sounds pretty much like this.

I'd guess it a simple throw out bearing noise from your description.

yes it should have been. Most slaves come with the bearing. The GM one does. Did they use a GM slave cylinder?
Only way to tell for sure is to pull the transmission out and check the bearing

Cutlass...I remember reading that although the throwout bearing could possibly be making noise...it didn't necessarily mean it had to be changed and it could still survive a while.
Any truth to that?

^^Yep.
Even if it was changed, doesn't mean it couldn't have failed prematurely.

well despite your problems with it, the GM one is a good quality one. But you can get a good one about anywhere

My brand new GM throw out bearing began making noise within a month after it was installed. Annoying as all hell- I hear it everytime I press in the clutch and every time I sit in neutral with the clutch out. Biggest PITA but I'll hold out replacing it until next summer when I upgrade the transmission. As long asits only squeaky you're okay- it's when it really starts making noise and grinding that you have to worry!
