T56 possible rebuild or best shop in Kitsap to Tacoma area??

Long story short, my 98 SS has a T56 (rebuilt in a Idaho in July of 2022, and is now stuck in reverse gear. Any recommendations on a trans shop between Kitsap county and Tacoma, WA?

Thanks in advance for any help.

TBH best bang for buck is to have Tick Performance rebuild it.

I hear you but it was literally just rebuilt this past summer (less than 6 months ago). If the damage is severe enough I would entertain sending it to Tick however, seems like it should be “bulletproof “ for some amount of time on a stock LS1, correct?

I came here to say this, I mean they are running the fastest stick in the 1/4 mile now. So they know what they're doing. Plus I am biased cause it is a NC based company.

    Edit: Fastest GM Manual Trans

If they do not warranty their work, then I would kind of be iffy to taking it back. But I would call them up and see what they say to be honest with you. You never know they could take it back and tear it down to see what went wrong with it. It is definitely worth a shot.

You can ship. Not that expensive. IIRC it may be part of the service

So I’m picking up the SS tomorrow and will have more details but the call from the mechanic today was that the shifter stops and shifter cup was all bad, re used bearing grease and a horrible shifter install (previous owner) likely the root of the problem… they replaced those items, new fluid, and new slave cylinder while they had the car. I’ll post anything new this week.

Thanks all for the advice throughout this issue.

Car is back and driving and shifts great… essentially the shifter (installed by previous owner) was not installed properly and according to the mechanic I got lucky that there wasn’t a problem beforehand. No damage internally in the T56, just used pry bars to release out of reverse gear, new grease on the shifter, replaced the delrin cup and reset the hard stops. Total charge $209 in labor and she’s on the road.
