Keep driving. You smoked the clutch, not the tires, and you will smell it for many days. Try not to do such a dumbass thing again, no real damage done except maybe you removed about 5,000 miles of life from your clutch.

I wonder how we all know that the smell will be there a few days, and the clutch will most likely survive.

    Hmmmm, anybody wanna say anything?

Could it be that just maybe we've done it once before?

I'll say it. I did it in my 4 speed chevelle, hit 3rd instead of first and smoked the $hit out of the clutch.

It happens. The smell will eventually go away.

I've seen folks in their 20's, 30's, 40's, and on up miss gears @ the track and on the road. Age has nothing to do with missing a gear.. More likely the cause is: "it's a manual shift transmission being shifted by a human.." Don't even sweet it your car is fine...

These 4th gen cars are badass. I never really wanted a 3rd gen, most of the 4th gens are porky, I have had 2 '67s before, one was a (Pontiac) 350 car, the other a 400. Both were 4-speed cars, gotta have the stick. Sold the 400 car in 2000 to get a 1998 Trans Am, it was an AT with 2.73s. Had that 4 years, really missed the stick shift, so I sold that one for the WS6. Love it, faster than any other car I've had, best gas mileage of any I've had, no plans to sell it ever!

That doesn't suck at all. Is there an expectation/requirement that you work x many years for them after getting your degree? Even if so, doesn't suck.
