short throws

I have a '98 z28 with i believe it is a slp or possibly a hurst short throw shifter. With this shifter on the shifts seem kinda notchy and i sometimes have difficulty getting it to go into 3rd gear. I was wondering if this possibly could be the short throw binding or if it sounds like a problem with the transmission. I was thinking about upgrading shifter to a either a b&m to see if it would shift more smoothly but I do not want to spend the money if it is a problem with the transmission.

Are you dogging it when you try to shift?

not always, sometimes during normal driving it will not engage 3rd gear. It happens everyonce a while when higher in the rpm's but not often.

Pull off your center console and see what kind of shifter you have. If you have the Hurst, theres your problem, they are notorious for missing 3rd while being hustled. Not sure on the SLP, might have the same issue though.

I think the best shifter for the T56 is the Pro 5.0. Its got perfect throws, isn't too notchy, and has very positive feel. It also has an offset shift mechanism built into it so you'll virtually never miss 3rd again
