Sounds like your slave cylinder is going out. Our cars don't have clutch cables like a Mustang (that would be too easy lol), we have hydraulic clutch systems consisting of the master cylinder at the pedal, the hydraulic lines going down to the trans, and then a slave cylinder (which is basically a hydraulic throwout bearing). It cannot be adjusted, since its self adjusting. When the slave starts to get weak, it can't disengage the clutch fast enough, resulting in hard shifting and trouble getting into gear, especially at high RPM's.

The solution is to upgrade the slave cylinder with a new one, preferrably from a 01-02 F-body (they are better than the 98-00 ones). You will have to drop the transmission, since the slave rides on the input shaft, so if your trans needs a rebuilt or you need a new clutch, thats the time do do it.

How are you sure its not gear grinding??

Id the clutch isn't fully disengaging when you try to shift, the result is usually hard shifting, not going into gear, and the transmission clashing/grinding when you try to engage gears.

Can't think of what else would make a grinding sound, at high RPM, when you try to shift, besides the transmission...
